Tarrytown is bordered by the Mopac Expressway and Lake Austin. The area is expensive and largely drives out all but the older and wealthier residents. Tarrytown is a quick drive to downtown Austin or the heart of The University of Texas campus.
Commercial attractions include businesses on Lake Austin Boulevard like the restaurant Zoot as well as Mozart's coffee. Although the area is more residential than commercial, there is also a bakery called Food Food and a Seattle's Best coffee shop. Tarrytown is a great place to live for those who live for the outdoors. Outdoor hot spots include a creek and nature trail, the Mayfield Preserve and the Lions Municipal Golf Course.
Mansions, cottages and many other large older homes mix in Tarrytown. The most affordable living is likely in the luxury condos and apartment complexes, due to the consistently high cost of even the smaller houses.
